Why Tire Dose

Why Trucking Companies & Owner-Operators Call Tire Dose

Class 8 Equipment, Not a Passenger Car Service

Semi trucks and heavy duty commercial vehicles require equipment that most roadside services simply don't carry. Tire Dose mobile units are purpose-equipped for commercial work — heavy duty bead breakers capable of handling 22.5" and 24.5" rims, torque wrenches calibrated to commercial spec, FMCSA-compliant patch-plug kits, and on-board inventory of the most common steer, drive, and trailer tire sizes. When we arrive at your rig on the NJ Turnpike at 3 AM, we have what we need to finish the job on-site — no parts run, no second truck.

FMCSA-Compliant Service on Every Repair

Commercial truck tires are federally regulated. Steer tires must maintain a minimum 4/32" tread depth — below that, the vehicle is out of service. Drive and trailer positions are held to 2/32". Puncture repairs must follow DOT/RMA standards: repairable-zone punctures only, proper internal patch-plug combination, no exterior-only plug on commercial tires. Every Tire Dose technician is trained to these standards. Fleet managers can request documentation of tire condition, repair method, and post-service measurements on any job — useful for your maintenance records and DOT audits.

Live 24/7 Dispatch — Not an Answering Service

When your truck is on the shoulder of I-78 at 2 AM, you don't want to leave a message and wait for a callback. Tire Dose runs a live dispatch operation around the clock — every call is answered by a real dispatcher who takes your location, vehicle type, and tire position, quotes you a price, and routes the nearest available commercial tire unit to you. Average response time for NJ Turnpike and I-78 corridor calls is 45–75 minutes. NYC commercial corridor calls average 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Fleet accounts get priority queue placement and dedicated dispatch numbers.

Repair vs. Replace

When a Semi Truck Tire Can Be Repaired — and When It Can't

FMCSA regulations govern what constitutes a legal repair on a commercial truck tire. A tire can be repaired when the puncture is in the center tread zone (not shoulder or sidewall), no larger than 3/8" on a non-steer position or 1/4" on a steer tire, with no cord damage, belt separation, or structural compromise — and tread depth above the regulated minimum. A tire must be replaced when the puncture is in the sidewall or shoulder zone, when there is belt or cord damage, when tread depth is at or below the DOT minimum, or when the tire has been run flat and suffered internal damage. Steer tire decisions are especially critical — if there is any doubt about structural integrity, we replace it immediately. Our technicians inspect on-site and give you a straight answer. Call (862) 406-6404 and describe the failure — we'll dispatch and advise.
